The bands and songs that got Noisy rockin' in 2007...

There was little chance of getting bored at this year's Sutton & Shopland festival, band after band impressed us - with one particular duo completely blowing us away mid-afternoon at the Red Brick stage playing what they call 'Heavy Western' infront of a backdrop of cowboys on horseback - later we discover they only live down the road? Fantastic! There's a new CD on the horizon apparently, and if it's anything like the material we have been treated to so far, it will be a permanent fixture in the stereo for the next six months! So, Phillious Williams are our favourite local discovery of 2007 - give them a listen and we think you'll see why.

Noisy has been eagerly awaiting new material from this band and 2007 saw the goth/rock five-piece release a six track CD containing some of their finest tunes from the past year or so - a fierce contender for the top spot, this one. Well worth a fiver of anyone's money, this mini-album is a proper silver CD and contains a lyric booklet so you too can sing along to 'Venus Envy' when you catch this band live!

Although having acquainted ourselves with the Essex garage punk trio some time ago, Noisy first saw The Freaks in the flesh earlier this year at a rare appearance at Southend's Club Riga - we were not disappointed. A catchy tune by the name of 'The Gallows' caught our attention and we've been eagerly awaiting it's release ever since. Hear it yourself thanks to the wonders of a youtube video on the band's myspace page.

A brilliant second album from this South Essex band - featuring excellent recent single 'Dogzilla' our favourite tunes here include 'No Ones Different' and the infectious ‘Hide Secrets’ - you need this record in your collection! As we said in our recent review: Buy the CD, see them live, make them your new favourite band.

Despite having released debut single 'The Digerati' only last month, it was the fiesty opening track from the Chelmsford punks' third EP proper The Battleground Is Everywhere that got Noisy all excited back in Spring this year. 'We Are Youth' is a gutsy call to arms that won't fail to get even the most apathetic of listeners nodding along appreciatively - this is one of many killer tunes in a fantastic back catalogue from a band that certainly deserve to go on to bigger and better things.
