Noisy zine is a printed fanzine and website. It was created in Autumn 2004, to support the alternative music scene in Essex, England, to get more people at gigs and maybe create a sense of community...
This website is designed to promote the printed fanzine, the bands it features, and provide extra photos/video/audio to supplement the fanzine. We are NOT a webzine and apart from the fanzine reviews on the 'zines' page, do not put reviews online.
If you like what we are doing and want to get involved, send us an e-mail for more info.
In general, you could say we cover 'alternative' & 'live' music - rock/punk/metal/goth/indie/ska/blues stuff - unsigned & signed bands that are based and/or playing live in the Essex area. We don't cover pop/house/garage stuff. Sorry! If you are unsure whether we would cover your band, take a look at some of the bands on our links page, for a better idea of the bands we do cover.
At the moment, either online via paypal or by mail order - send us an e-mail at info at noisyzine.co.uk and we'll give you an address to send your order to - the fanzine costs 50p + A5 sae. There are small amounts of the fanzine available to buy from stockists listed on the latest issue page.
If you are an Essex band, of course you can! At the moment we do not have a PO Box address, so please send us an e-mail at: info at noisyzine.co.uk and we shall give you a temporary address to send material to.
REVIEWS POLICY
We only review bands that come from, and play live in, Essex, U.K.
Bands from or gigging in, Essex, U.K. Every release from an Essex act will be reviewed in the next issue, if you are gigging in Essex, feel free to e-mail us and where possible we will try to come along and do a gig review.
PR companies/Record labels/bands from outside the county of Essex, U.K. - if you want to send us CDs to keep us updated, we are not going to stop you - we love discovering new music and if we really, really like something, we will find a way to mention it somehow, but please be advised that we will not review releases or gigs that don't fit into the criteria outlined above.
Bands - when sending in something for review, it is very handy to give us an E-mail address so we can let you know when your demo has been reviewed.
To be considered for a feature in the fanzine, please send us a copy of your demo on CD/cassette/vinyl. We cannot download mp3s from myspace etc. due to not having a super-duper broadband connection. Every demo from an Essex band is reviewed in the next issue, and if we like you lots we may profile you or ask to interview you - please remember space and time is limited though!
At present there are no plans to issue another covermount CD.
WE ONLY FEATURE BANDS THAT COME FROM, AND BANDS THAT PLAY IN, ESSEX, U.K. Sorry! Instead, we recommend you approach general music fanzines as listed on our links page, who feature music from National & International artists, for coverage.
It's recommended you sign-up to our mailing list for up-to-date news - we will e-mail you as soon as the next issue appears! It's also announced on our MySpace page. Otherwise, keep checking this website. Issue 10 is scheduled for February 2010.
The deadline for submissions for issue 10 is now closed. Rest assured, if you send us a demo/submission after the latest issue has gone to print, it will be included in the following issue.
Yes, we do accept a limited amount of music-related advertising for each issue, please e-mail: info @ noisyzine.co.uk for more information. Ad rates are cheap & priced per quarter of an A5 page, and the maximum amount of advertising any one advertiser can take out in any one issue is one whole page of A5. Please note that your advert will appear in black & white. Also, we are not-for-profit and any proceeds from advertising go towards printing & web hosting costs. Advert deadline for issue 10 has now closed.
We are always on the look-out for more people to help us cover the Essex music scene, particularly gigs in areas we can't always get to! Generally we are interested in people who are offering any of the following:
- Gig reviews - anything locally of interest, needs to be a gig happening in Essex and generally within the alternative genre - most of our writers are based in Southend and therefore review mainly that area, we would love more reviews from other places, especially Romford/Grays/North Essex.
- Articles/features on local labels/gig promoters and club nights.
- General writing/features on past scenes/movements within the county (for example, in issue 3 we had a feature on Southend's punk scene in the 70s and 80s).
- An article about music fandom in general that most people could relate to/be interested in (for example, we have had articles in the past on creating a press pack, charity shopping for vinyl, unusual CD packaging and mix tapes).
We only have an interest in Essex-based bands, events and gigs, but despite how often we mention this on here, we get a suprisingly large amount of PR companies and labels adding us to mailing lists - please, please don't do this unless your subject is Essex-music related!
No, myspace only, although this myspace page is no longer updated, and just exists for information purposes only.
We're more than happy to help out if we have the time (but a little put out to not receive a simple 'thank you' from people afterwards!). Noisy's emails are monitored by one person with a full-time job, sometimes it takes a while to respond to everything!
